SECTION 15845 - AIR DOOR UNITS

PART 1  GENERAL

1.1                    SUMMARY

B.             Products Installed But Not Supplied Under This Section:  Owner will furnish air door unit system equipment under provisions of Section 01600.

1.3                    SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A.            A self contained recirculating Air entrance system consisting of a overhead plenum, tower, gas duct heaters, filter, lighting and flooring system

1.5                    QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.            Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories:  ETL Listed or UL listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70.

1.6                    DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.            Product Delivery:  Air Door Unit Manufacturer will deliver products to jobsite for Contractor to receive on delivery date established by General Contractor. General Contractor will receive, store and securegoods on site.  Make contact with manufacturer to establish product delivery date mininum of 6 weeks before equipment is required.

B.             Installation Drawings and Instructions:  Transmitted to Contractor upon initial contact with manufacturer including 6 copies of manufacturer product shop drawings and product specifications.

C.             Product Packaging:  Products will be packaged in manufacturer's standard cartons with identification markings on each package.

D.            Acceptance at Site:  Receive products as specified in Section 01600.

1.             Verify quantity of products furnished with Bill of Material provided with Owner furnished products.

2.             Report discrepancies in product quantity delivered or product damage to manufacturer and owner immediately.

3.             Upon notification of discrepancies or product damage by Contractor, manufacturer will arrange for delivery of replacement products.

4.             Note description of product quantity discrepancies and/or product damage on Bill of Lading.

E.             Manufacturing Defects:  Report suspected product-manufacturing defects to owner and product manufacturer.  Upon notification, Owner will arrange for repair of product manufacturing defects.

1.7                    SYSTEM STARTUP

A.            Follow air door unit manufacturer's published installation and start-up instructions.

B.             Schedule start-up, allowing Owner Representative to be present unless Owner Representative directs otherwise.  If start-up and testing cannot be completed due to seasonal weather conditions, perform remaining start-up at an appropriate time.

C.             During start-up, operate each unit in every mode, separately and in conjunction with other units for sufficient period of time, demonstrating to the Owners satisfaction that each unit is operating properly.

D.            Startup Procedures:  Perform the following as part of the air door system startup.

1.             Set power disconnect switch in "off" position.  Verify that wire connections are tight and did not loosen during shipping and handling.

2.             Verify that specified voltage is provided to power disconnect switch.

3.             Place the SUMMER switch in the "Summer" position.

4.             Start unit by placing the power disconnect switch in the "On" position.

5.             Check the airflow from under the plenum discharge area.  There should be approximately 1000 fpm. This flow is preset at the factory and is not fiels adjustable.  If there is very low airflow, fan are turning the wrong way have qualified electrician reverse feed to unit.

6.             Make sure fan are turning clockwise.

7.             On the front of the panel you will find the Dirty filter gauge. Turn the small screw to make the black needle go to “0” this is the only calibration required of this device. This device is the Photohelic Pressure Gauge

8.             Install the  filters paying attention to the Airflow direction (red Arrow)

9.             System is now ready for use.

PART 2  PRODUCTS

2.1                    MANUFACTURER

B.             Substitutions:  Not permitted.

2.2                    MANUFACTURED UNITS (OWNER FURNISHED CONTRACTOR INSTALLED)

A.             Air Door System described as follows.

B.             Flooring system.

1.             Flooring is a series of 2’x 2’ perforated flooring panels 2” thick similar to raised computer flooring

2.              Adjustable Aluminum pedestals (posts) support these panels and are bolted to the bottom of the pit during installation

3.              

C.             Air Filter system is a series of dry disposable filters .

D.             Vertical Tower

1.             Control (requires 480 V 30 Amp service 3 Phase)

2.             Removable filter rack

3.             Pre-wired electric control panel complete including disconnect switch.

4.             The connections from the electrical control to the heater are prewired.

a.       Field wire 3-phase service to the main breaker and 277 volt service to the plenum lights (by qualified electrician)

b.       Field wire 3 fans located in plenum by pulling the wires attached to the main control through pre-installed conduit inside plenum. (By qualified electrician)

c.       Wire fans as required (by qualified electrician) 480 v 3 phase hook-up.

E.             Supply and return plenum of sheet metal construction.

1.             Air discharge with access doors and lighting

2.              The 10 Fluorescent lighting fixtures in each plenum are partially installed and  pre-wired This is because the plenum ships in two pieces and the  4’ fixture is installed on the joint. The center fixture will need to be field installed and wired (by a qualified electrician.)

3.             Gas Heater. The plenum shall house 2 Each Reznor Model # SC 400 W/ E3 #409 SS Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger. Separated combustion natural gas duct heaters requiring only a single building penetration. Units shall be two stage heat. 3 wire control to be controlled by owners separate heat call controls. Units shall be the duct heater type and shall hang independent of the plenum and shall be ducted into from the tower and out of into the plenum with transistion collars that are part of the air entrance assembly. Prussure drop not to exceed .10” WG. !20v required to each unit.

F.              Information Plaque:  Operation and information notification plaque informing the reader of the basic principals for the operation of the air door system will be attached to the front of the cabinet by manufacturer

2.3                    EQUIPMENT

A.            Service Characteristics:  As shown on the drawings.

2.4                    GENERAL CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITY

A.            Concrete pit as per the drawings. Steel angle @ exterior pit edge.

B.             Temporary bridging of pit for safety reasons.

C.             Receiving and unloading of equipment (place units adjacent to the openings.). 9 Pallets  Size  (approx) 5’ X  5’ X 8’  average weight 700 lbs. each.

D.            General Contractor is responsible to to supply a forklift and driver (if required by local requirements) for 3-4  Hours to lift sections into position.

E.             Clean pit of all construction debris and dust.

F.               General Contractor will be responsible for Furnishing and pre-hanging of threaded rods and  unistrut as per drawings.

G.             Electrical power to control as per drawings. 4 Wire system 480 V 40 Amp Service using 1 #10 ground wire and 3 # 8 power wires.

H.             Electrical power to lighting 277 Volt. on top of plenum.

I.               General Contractor will make licensed electrican available to install and hook up center lights (2 each) located in the ceiling of plenum.

J.                General Contractor will make licensed electrican available for wiring and hook up of fans. ( 3 each)

K.            Discarding of wooden shipping pallets and  other shipping material

PART 3  EXECUTION

3.1                    EXAMINATION

A.            Examine existing conditions, openings and adjacent areas where products will be installed and verify that conditions conform to product manufacturer's requirements.  Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

1.             Verify that building framing components are ready for installation of equipment.

 

B.             Beginning installation indicates acceptance of existing conditions.

3.2                    INSTALLATION

A.            Installer shall install air door system equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s published instructions and installation drawings.

B.             Install vertical tower, connecting collar and overhead plenum units.

C.             Connect electrical service to control.  Check fan rotation.

D.            Connect electrical service to j-box on to of plenum for plenum lights.

E.             Install flooring before air door system start-up.   General contractor wil lprovide protection for flooring from damage during construction.

3.3                    CONSTRUCTION

A.            Interface with other Work: General contractor shall:

1.             Coordinate steel angle poured in concrete at air door exterior edge of pit.

2.             Seal  Enclosure wall penetrations air tight as specified in Section 07900.

3.             Coordinate location and connection of hanger rods for overhead plenum unit support from building structure.

4.             Furnish and install seismic support bracing where required.

3.4                    FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A.            Site Tests:

1.             Schedule testing and balancing in accordance with Section 01411 after completion of system start-up requirements.  Air door system testing and balancing must be performed at the same time as the building mechanical equipment testing and balancing.

a.       Before start of air door system testing and balancing, the following work items must be complete:

1)           Neutralization Enclosure walls complete, sealed, and inspected.

2)           Each building door installed.

3)           Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system operational.

4)           Air door system start-up complete.

2.             After installation is complete, inspect and mechanically check individual system components.

3.             After electrical connection, start unit and verify motor rotation and unit operation.

B.             Inspection:  Inspect Neutralization Enclosure wall construction as specified in Section 15951.

C.             Manufacturer's Field Services:

1.             Inspection:

a.       Inspect Neutralization Enclosure wall construction and penetrations for compliance with airtight seal requirements.

b.       Inspect air door system installation.

c.       Prepare and submit Manufacturer's inspection report to Owners Construction Manager at completion of inspection.

2.             Testing and Balancing:

a.       Obtain Manufacturer's Representative approval of  Enclosure before testing and balancing of air door system.

 

3.5                    DEMONSTRATION

A.            Installer shall be responsible for start-up and proper operation of installed Air Entrances except for filter change-out
